Brearton blitzes Tawa College to earn HVHS historic Premier Girls cricket win
Hutt Valley High School are the new CSW Premier 1 cricket champions after knocking Tawa College off their perch to win the competition.
In a low scoring contest, Hutt Valley High scored a stunning 71-run victory after bowling Tawa out for a meagre 36. Dani Brearton was the hero for Hutt, taking five wickets while conceding just a single.
Hutt Valley High School batted first and reached 107 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Antonia Hamilton made 32 off 42 balls, easily the best batting display of the match. The next highest score was Charlotte Leach whose rapid fire 18 from 21 deliveries lifted HVHS over a hundred.
Eithne Hunt (3 for 18) and Jamie Mason-Jones (2 for 19) made run-scoring tricky for HVHS.
Tawa reached 20 without too much hassle, before Leach dismissed Jeneesha Maisuria to trigger carnage. Four Tawa batsmen failed to score as Tawa lost their last eight wickets for seven runs. Brearton clean bowled three of her victims and claimed two caught and bowled scalps in a dead-eye two-over spell.
Jamie Mason-Jones scored half of Tawa’s total. Tawa was missing White Fern and 2017 CSW Sportswoman of the year Amelia Kerr who took part as a reserve fielder as the Tawa team were short and she is registered in the Tawa Boys 1st XI so was ineligible to play.
