Preview & Draw – 2019 CSW Premier Netball Tournament

The 2019 Paul Cameron Cup College Sport Wellington Premier Netball Tournament is being played tomorrow, Thursday 16 May, at the ASB Sports Centre.

Twenty four school teams will line up for their first taste of competitive netball against each other this year, with several schools expected to challenge for tournament honours ahead of the Regional Secondary School League (RSSL) starting at the end of June.

Sacred Heart College, Lower Hutt, were last year’s winners of this tournament and went on to finish runners-up in the Regional competition to St Mary’s College. Sacred Heart is fielding almost a completely new team this year, but have made a winning start to the Hutt Valley Secondary Schools Premier 1 competition and are unbeaten after four matches so far. St Oran’s College are also unbeaten (three matches played) and also play in the Hutt Valley Premier 1 club competition.

Wellington East Girls’ College’s top team and Queen Margaret College are currently playing in the Wellington Netball Centre’s club Premier Grade, with St Mary’s and Marsden Collegiate in Premier 2 and Wellington Girls’ College and Newlands College in Premier 3.

Leading players from all these schools will be in action, including new NZSS players Saviour Tui (St Mary’s) and Paris Lokotui (Queen Margaret) and recently selected Hutt Valley U19 and U17 players and upcoming Wellington age-grade trialists, while it is also a chance for young players to impress their coaches at the start of the season.

The quickfire tournament will see games played in two 10-minute halves with 90 second halftimes/turnarounds and not stoppage for injury breaks.

The 24 teams are in action across all 12 courts, each playing five round-robin games over two hours. Four points are allocated for a win, two for a draw and none for a loss. If teams are tied on points at the end of section play, the countback tiebreakers are who beat whom, followed by goal differential between two or more teams as the case may be.

The first crossover round is at 1.15pm, the second at 2.00pm and the grand final at 2.30pm.  Download the 2019 College Sport Wellington Premier Netball Tournament Draw.
