Wellington Premier Cricket Players to Watch

Forget election day, Premier First XI cricket starts on Saturday and these are some of the leaders you need to look out for this summer.

Oscar Jackson – Wellington College 1st XI – Rumor is a new subject at school is how to get this man out. Oscar averaged 106 last season with four centuries in half a dozen innings. Jackson can bat time and dominate with explosive stroke play. If Jackson posts similar numbers in the coming months Wellington will be a strong chance to book a third successive Nationals spot.

Toby Cook – Wellington College 2nd XI – The spearhead of the Wellington College 2nd XI bowling attack and 1st XV prop took 14 wickets last season, which was the second most of any player. Will he earn a promotion? His best spells earlier this year were 4-20 against Hutt International Boys School and 3-46 in a single run win against Onslow College.

Oliver Argent – St Pats Wellington – Town underwhelmed in Term One with a modest record of three wins in seven starts. Argent was a rare bright spot. He scored 395 runs at an average of 79 with three half centuries and an unforgettable hundred against St Pats Silverstream. In a hopeless cause he smashed ten fours and six sixes in making 113 off 89 balls.

Callan Holgate – Onslow College – Onslow’s Captain and leading wicket taker in Term One, Holgate has really stood up after Onslow lost Oliver Fernyhough through injury. Who could forget him taking 4-26 in a tense victory over St Pats Wellington that had them joint table leaders after two rounds.

Elliot Seddon – Scots College – Scots spearhead took a leading 17 wickets in seven games in Term One with an economy rate of less than four an over. His best figures were 4/27 against Rongotai College and he has been among the wickets in Scots preseason matches recently with hauls of five against Christchurch Boys’ High School and Lindisfarne College.

Hanro Van Graan – St Patrick’s College, Silverstream – Van Graan was the leading wicket taker for Silverstream in Term One and will be looking for repeat success as Silverstream attempt to defend the title. His best display was 5-33 against the Wellington College seconds.
