We are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior A Basketball Coach to lead our top Boys’ team for the 2026 season. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, tactical understanding, and the ability to inspire excellence within a positive team culture.

The Wellington College Hockey Committee is excited to invite applications for the position of the 1st XI coach for 2026.
The Wellington College Hockey Club is a large, well established club that regularly fields 5 teams from Junior to P1 level. Our values centre around "striving for excellence" on and off the field and in all aspects of the game, whether you are a supporter, player or administrator. The club focuses on continuous improvement and development in our hockey space for players, managers and coaches. As coach of the 1st XI,you will be supported and guided by the Hockey Committee, strength and conditioning experts, team managers, and the growing hockey community at the school.
The successful applicant will be passionate about hockey, have a strong knowledge of the game and previous coaching experience. They will inspire a team of young, motivated athletes focused on success. You will assist in the selection of the 1st XI squad and have the skills to articulate your vision to players, supporting them as they reach their potential. You will play a key role in establishing and maintaining positive team culture, “leaving mana in our wake”. The school aims to reestablish its position as one of the leading hockey schools in New Zealand, and with just under 90 players across years 9-13, 2025 saw 5 teams play from P1 to Juniors, as well as a selected U15 team. There is continued growth in the number of players and therefore, in line with our values, the Wellington College Hockey Club are recruiting for a high performing Hockey Coach for our Wellington College 1st XI. We require a 2 year commitment to maintain and grow this team at this level of hockey and encourage the successful applicant to consider this when applying for this role.
The 1st XI train weekly, play Friday night inter school matches, and attend two away tournaments each season (the ANZAC preseason tournament and Rankin Cup, held in Winter Tournament Week) In addition to this the team plays a small number of Traditional Matches, home and away during the season. The team also plays several traditional matches against other Boys Colleges from across the country during the season.
