Premier Futsal Finals Night
The Wellington Premier Futsal titles were decided at the ASB Sports Centre lastnight.
National champions Wellington East Girls’ College added another trophy to their burgeoning cabinet with a 4-1 success over Onslow College.
As expected Wellington East took an early lead over Onslow after a Jordan Coulter strike. However, Onslow showed their mettle repelling repeated assaults on their goal and equalising before halftime.
Wellington East increased the tempo in the second-half, frequently rolling subs who flourished with short bursts of energy.
Onslow were dogged but lacked the finishing quality of Wellington East whose second-half goals were scored by Jessica Millis (2) and Liv Deane.
Wellington East was undefeated in six games and outscored all opponents 48-6.
Earlier a boisterous group of supporters from Scots and Wellington College crammed into a confined space, separated by barriers, to watch a replay of the national semi-final, won by Wellington.
It would be Scots who started with greater urgency, peppering Wellington’s keeper and breaking through with goals to Morris Overkamp and Alden Suri. Suri celebrated his birthday on Friday and his right-foot thunderbolt was the highlight of a frantic opening spell.
Wellington rallied and crucially halved the deficit but Scots always looked the slicker and more desperate. Another goal by the fleet-footed, industrious Overkamp and additional strikes by Adam Jassen and Dylan Walker capped an impressive victory.
Scots First XI will start the outdoor football season as the reigning Premier I champions.
