HURRICANES U14 RUGBY BOYS FESTIVAL
Background
In 2018, College Sport Wellington and Wellington Rugby Football Union ran a pilot under 14 festival. Based on the positive experiences and feedback of the players and management, the event has run annually. Similar to the Hurricanes Under 15 tournament played in Upper Hutt, the festival is played during secondary schools winter tournament. The festival will be played at Wakefield Park artificial in Wellington City.
Aim
The aim of the festival is not high performance, but rather to try to engage students under 14 with the game of rugby. There will be NO FINALS. Think of it as a school camp that just happens to have some rugby games attached to it.
It is hoping that students within school that haven’t had a chance to play during the year, get an opportunity to play. In 2023 there were 25 players involved that did not play rugby for the school during the year, and 12 of those 25 had never played rugby before.
Entries
Entries for 2025 are now open. Entry forms are required to be completed and returned (with payment or request for invoice) by Wednesday 14th May. It is important to note that the event will be limited to 12 teams and entries will be accepted on a first paid basis.
